Windows 98. Frequently programs crash immediately after starting them. The error message is always (more or less) similar to the one above, but it doesn't help me at all. Can anyone tell what it refers to?

What program is "STP.exe"?
i don't have this file on my W98SE system;
try a file search on your HDD, What folder? and do right click at "STP.exe" choose Properties to get more info about the file;

Greetings from
Duracell

Means whatever program STP.exe is, it is not behaving well and has stomped on a memory address in use; Windows then cannot use that page of memory and usually either locks up, reboots, crashes, or sometimes continues after a few clicks op de muisje...

I think I just might do that!!!

STP.exe is an mp3 player. The error message was just an example, Winamp suffers from the same problem. Oddly enough it only seems to happen with these 2 programs (although I'm not 100% sure about that).

I have seen a similar message in the past on 98SE and ME... it was with the evil duo VIA mainboard+ SoundBlaster Live soundcard. Try using different mainboard and soundcard drivers, and it may be resolved.

I finally found the cause of the problem: Plextools. After uninstalling it no more crashes have occurred.
