What does "LOL" mean?

I'd just loved this forum simply because the people here are friendly and even "professional"!

Reading and learning from posts is a great previlege... Cheers to the moderators and all members!!!!!

I'm just curious what is the meaning of the expression "LOL" ?I read this a couple of times specially when the discussions is getting lively.

I know this question seems far-out, but for the benefit of the doubt, I need to know so that I can use that too!
