What do you reccomend

Having played mainly games of the Quake/Unreal/Half-life/Castle wolfstein etc type, I had a dabble with `Dungeon Siege` and found it stangely compelling
Please can anyone tell me of any other games along the same lines that I could try.

I would recommend I learnt how 2 spell

i love playing quake, unreal,RCWS and half life, so i also love playing RTS games (age of emires, starcraft ect), but im not sure what kind of game Dungeon Siege is.

i played dungeon siege many ours with some friends but the gameplay got really annoying. after powering up your char you can stand against any enemy and there is no real challenge anymore. i could stand in front of the "dragon queen" in the multiplayer level and attack it for about quarter of an hour until she was dead, and she didn't hurt me at all .... i made me something to eat while "fighting" :)
in the beginning the game was nice, but after a while it was just clicking on enemies and waiting for them to die ....
the fighting system in that game is really shit.

better games of that type are "neverwinter nights" or "morrowind"

i didn't play morrowind but i've seen few frainds playing it some time, and it looked nice, and tha gameplay was much better than in dungeon siege, but it is in first person view.

neverwinter nights is top view and the gameplay and spell, fight .... system is much more developed. i played that game many games, my character changed its attitude, just from the different ways i dealt with other chars. i've got a really high level druid, but there is still always challenge for me. you can really customize the way you develop your character, not only, fighter or mage, but there are many special abilities, depending one types of chars, or some free to choose for everyone, and the weapons, ... require different feats, no mage can use a long sword ... you can go to a "shop" and let him create a sword especially for you, after collecting some money and jewels ...
there is no click and win method in this game even with a barbarian, you can do severaly special attacks to win the fight, if you don't use your abilities you will soon loose..

i think it's enough, i really enjoy(ed) and like that game. but atm i don't have time to play it :(
i hope you got a better overview over some recent rpgs now

Like Dungeon Siege?

If you like Dungeon Siege you should try Diablo II. Its the same type of game, just a little less graphically advanced. You could probably pick it up for hardly nothing since its been out for awhile.

FPShooters I would recommend are Medal of Honor, Soldier of Fortune II, and UT2K3

Thanks for the replies :)
Looks like Diablo 2 and Neverwinter nights it is then.
(as it happens I have Mafia kicking around so I`ll give that a go too)
Is Unreal 2003 as good as it looks?

yeah, ut2k3 is very good, and mafia is fine too, one of my friends played through the game, he really enjoyed it
he watched the ending again and again :)

Balders Gate 1+2 , the first is absolutely massive, both are much better than dungeon seige or neverwinter nights, which were both over far too quickly and far too easy. There's also Planescape Torment which you should be able to pick up for buttons. BG 1 is also on budget release

Medal of Honor Allied Assault is also built on the Quake engine. I think Star Trek Voyager Elite Force is too.
