What Can I use to join .mpg files?

Use the MPEG Tools/ Merge&Cut feature in TMPGEnc. In the Merge & Cut section, load in first mpg file, then the second, give an output name and hit go.

do those programs actually have to re-render the whole video and write it? or do they just combine the binary code?

thanks

I prefer M2Edit 4.0 or 5.0 - updates of the old i-Film Edit that do MPG2. Nice filmstrip view, frame-by-frame select to cut (I use it to cut out TV ads in shows I've captured like Babylon 5 - entire 5 seasons).

No re-rendering (or re-encoding) is done, it just joins both the Video and Audio channels together keeping it all in sync. It not just a simple job or joining 2 binary files together, there are mpeg headers etc to wory about as well.

TMPGEnc is simple and easy, so is M1or2-Edit, so is Wombles MPEG2VCR, etc. Choice is yours, but TMPGenc is both easy to obtain (download from their site _www.tmpgenc.net) and very simple to use.
