This is a Windows version of the Data Lifeguard Diagnostics utility. The utility can perform drive identification, diagnostics, and repairs on a Western Digital FireWire, EIDE, or USB drive. In addition, it can provide you with the drive's serial and model numbers.

To work on the current drive, the DOS version may be needed - I hope they give suitable warnings before doing something unwise.

The other factor (and this is probably locked to WD drives), is that it is always wise to create a bootable floppy of analysis and repair tools BEFORE you need them.

If your hard disc is semi-toasted, running Windows is the last thing you should be trying to do - all those temp files and swapfile being written, that's if it gets that far.
