Weird problem with TMPGEnc... Need help!

Hi, I have a problem with TMPGEnc. It seems that when I try to convert certain files from AVI, the program reads them as far longer than they actually are, and then won't let me fit them on to a disc.

For example - I tried to convert all 4 episodes of Macross Plus to MPG, so I could write them to DVD. Each ep is roughly 40 minutes long. The weird thing is that on the page where you get to specify a percentage of the DVD to take up, each file is shown at roughly 2 hours, and refuses to be taken down to the 25% mark.

If I set the last frame manually, the time returns to normal, but there is no sound on the MPG file, rendering it rather useless.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

TMPGenc does all sorts of crazy things when there are problems (may not be evident) with the original AVI.

Suggest you have a read of the AVI to DVDR tutorial http://www.cdrbase.com/showthread.php?t=25572 but in the bitrate tab, change the 4400 to 1/4 of that (1100) for 4 eps per DVDR. CCE will give you better results than TMPGenc.

If CCE has problems with your AVI, check the AVI with DivFix or DivXRepair (search here for their URL's)

Ok, I've encoded the file with CCE. That at least recognises the file as about 40 mins long.

There is still no audio however. Any ideas?

Here's the 'summary' of the file, according to Windows.

512x384

AUDIO
Duration: 39:19
Bit Rate: 127 kbps
Audio Format: MPEG Layer-3

VIDEO
Frame rate: 23 fps
Data Rate: 159 fps
Video Smaple Size: 24 Bit
Video Compression: DIVXMPG4 V3

Any help would be apreciated!

Thanks,

As mentioned here many many times, just extract the audio out of the AVI's using Nandub. Set Audio to Direct Stream Copy and then hit Save WAV, but its not a WAV just the original form its in (from your data above, its an MP3) so name it audio.mp3. Amnually convert to AC3 with BeSweet with Besweet GUI or AC3 Machine. Use that when Authoring in DVDLab or Maestro.
