hello mate i have the same problem when i uninstalled norton 2002, i think it leaves some thing in the registry because i done a format on my hdd and it reinstalled noproblem after that, it must leave some thing some were to stop it being put back on for some strange reason. i hope this helps a bit mate later davy

If you've got the time:

Format C:

reinstall windows

change year to 2070

REBOOT

Install NAV and get the updates and reset the clock to 2002

REBOOT

you now get updates for X%^*+ years !

norton v/s

If you've got the time:

format c:  seems to be a little drastic don't you think?

Yes it (NAV) leaves behind crap in reg. However I just used jv16 power tool and got rid of entrey. not to hard to do that , Then reinstalled NAV2002. (& yes I know about the update extender, got it to)

if you got reg. tool: Look for Systemactic & not Norton (mine still had Live Update and one other still there)
If you don't have tool you can find it in the forum.

But back to question: now that I'm using F-secure is there a way to scan cdr for virus? If not, bbwhat's a good a/v to use to do it with?

 sounds like a headache to remove 2002 by formatting i just uninstalled using the uninstaller then looked in the registery using "regedit" at the run command in start menu & searched out "symantec" and "nortan" and deleted all entries i found then deleted any folders left behind in c: or where you installed it look for folder called "ncdtree" and delete that then look in >
C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Application Data folder and delete the symantec folder there if its still there that is :)

then delete the folders "nortan antvirus" and delete that its usually where you installed it to and also delete the "nortan rescue" folder :)

then you reboot and reinstall nortans and all should be fine !! ive done it a few times now :D

symantec has a program removal tool in its website...it is under 'knowledge base'...I don't remember the name...do a search...you'll find it...

f-secure

now that I'm using F-secure is there a way to scan cdr for virus? If not, what's a good a/v to use to do it with?
this what I want to know?

In may first post I said I could'nt get norton back up, BUT I knew all along that I would have to delete reg. entries. to get it back up. and thats not the prob.

Also if Norton is best proggy to scan cdr with? Is it possible to keep both F-Secure and Norton on same system without conflicts?

F-Secure

guys your missing the question:

Is there a way to scan cdr with F-Secure?

If there is'nt a way, can I install NAV without conflicts to F-Secure?

crater,

Just right click on your CD drive letter and run F-Secure from the menu.

Yes you can run F-Secure and NAV but I will not recommend.
First it is not recommended to run several AV on a single machine.
Secondly F-Secure loads a lot of programs which might get in conflict with NAV.
But if you really want to have both on you machine, I will let F-Secure running in, the background and disable NAV. Do not forget to disable also alll NAV options as POP scan...After a reboot I will check msconfig and unchecked any NAV programs from there.

Good luck.

scaning

yep, I finally found out how (silly me)

from prog. menu

f-secure/(drop menu)scan folder/drive letter

it will scan all of disc

also found out that if you want to install big progg. shut off a/v (after you have scaned file/folder for virus) . seems to lock up puter because files are going through a/v first.

now I'm sayin that this wrong for it to do this just inconvenet.

Scaning disk or d/l files first before install is alot easier, And d/l files probabally go though a/v anyway so are safe to install without scaning a second time.
Oh yea about norton. No I'm not going to install NAV. The only reason I asked if I could run dual A/V was that I knew I could scan cdr with Norton. Why should I ruin a Good thing(F-secure) by installing NAV.(only my thought)

Thanks to all that replied
