view from the hard drive

I am somewhat new to backing up my videos and have more of a question than a problem.I use decrypter and shrink for most of my backups and can usually play them back from the hard drive with power dvd. When I had to make another back-up of Predator, I noticed I had no sound. Power dvd said it was not available.Nor could you hear it with the latest version of shrink in monitor. I used DVDXcopy to back-up because I knew it would work and it made the copy with sound. But still Power DVD said no audio playing back from hard drive. I went ahead and used shrink to make another copy and all the disks played in my computer and stand alone just fine. I did notice that it was rce protected for zone one, But predator was the first one that I can't play from the hard drive and not have sound. Any enlightenment here?

Well just got home from work and tried to rip the original disk with shrink and finally got audio to monitor by using right click on the left pane of shrink and specifing what audio to play and not let the player automatically pick for me. Power DVD still says no audio available when played from hard drive. Like I say it's not really a problem and long as the disk burns OK. I'm going to do a more through search and if I find an answer I'll post back. I appreciate these forums to ask questions. Thanks

I get that problem whenever there is a codec conflict or the incorrect codec installed. If U open up the Video_TS.ifo file with IFOEdit (search the forum) it will specify what audio the disc is in. Or as u said shrinkDVD will tell U. Then just search the forum for the specified codec (you might want to stay clear of the codec packs, some systems they cause problems with and look for the codec U need). Most people that I have heard of have the most problems AC3 (which most DVD's use) and alot of programs won't convert ac3 files.

OK that didn't take too long.Problem was I was using PowerDVD 4.0 which has a known bug and cannot figure out which audio to use from the HD. Cure is to use 5.0 with the latest update and it will allow you to select from the options bar the correct audio stream. In my case I only ripped the 5.1 to the hard drive and I had to select that stream. I would recommend to update. I guess I got lazy there. Thanks again all.
