video problems after converting

i used dvd2svcd to convert a divx avi to dvd-r format and burned this onto a dvd-rw with copytodvd. everything is great except every 10-20 seconds theres a little pause in the video and audio like it's lagging. im not sure if this makes sense but thats the only way i can describe it. please help as everything else is great but its starting to get annoying watching this movie.

I had a similar problem to this . Some where in conversion I had accidently changed the film format from ntsc to pal going back and keeping the same tv format cured my problem

the divx file itself plays fine on my computer. but the burned dvd-rw still 'lags' on both my pc and dvd player. we have 3 dvd players in my house, one being a ps2, and i tried all 3 and got the same results. i dont think i messed anything up during encoding as i started it, saw that it took 7 hours and the tutorial said to just leave it going and it was better not to run other programs so i just left it.

After the conversion, there should have been an MPG file generated. Does that play okay on the PC ?

Can you also post what GSPOT says about the AVI for both Video & Audio.

the converted video lags also which is why i think its something in the conversion process. gspot says:
xvid for video,942 kbs,23.976 fps
audio-0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3,137 kb/s,48000 hz
it says i dont have the xvid codec installed, but i do and the movie works fine, just the converted one is weird.

when you convert it are you trying to manually change the frame rate from 23fps to 25fps !?

the file you have is NTSC are you attempting to change to PAL !?

well,i did like you said and it seemed to help a bit, but now when i watch it on my comp, instead of pausing the pictures seem to split apart in these boxes and when i burned it and watched it on my dvd player those same parts paused like before.

Sounds like the original Xvid codec you has has not been removed from your system completely. Would suggest you uninstall the xvid codec, then seach and remove any referenc to xvid in your Registry File, then re-install the latest Xvid again.

You simply have a codec problem as I have been trying to say. Uninstall ALL xvid codec you have on your system, do a search of your registry and remove any references to xvid, search your SYSTEM/SYSTEM32 folder for any remaining xvid files. Once all that has been done, install the Xvid 1.0.2 from the link zver has given. I would not recommend ffdshow, it may cure one problem but just causes others later on.
