Video formats and conversion

Need a bit of help here....

I have some video in .AVI format which I believe is the DIVX format, thats the first thing I need to clear up. I also have some .MPG or is it MPEG video, which I would like to convert to DIVX (.AVI ??) as the files are a lot smaller, is this easy to do, how do I do it and what software do I need ???

Also can these files be converted to one that will allow them to be played on a standalone DVD player, I think it's called VCD or Video disk (standard CDROM not a DVD)

Hope this all makes sense, just trying to understand it all

Instead of typing it all in just go to /http://vcdhelp.com and it will have all of the answers to your questions in the FAQ.

P.S. try /www.virtualdub.org for the application you will use to edit video for the rest of your life... good luck

If u want to convert to vcd then spend some time looking at Chickenmans tutorials.
You will not find better.
