video clip to avi or mpeg. can it be done ?

does anyone know if there is any programs to convert downloaded video clips to either AVI or MPEG. Have been trying for ages but all to no avail.
Please help.

what is the clip yer tryin to convert !? there are a few converters out there to convert most clips to something else !?

snag-it has a capture facility in it so u can grab it and save it in realtime
