VHS to SVCD

Hey, I got just a couple of problems when I try to do this.
1) I get a lot of frames dropped, usually over 1000, sometimes less.

2) When the capturing process is done, I get an error saying that some audio was lost, try lowering the capture rate.

3) When I get done burning the mpeg file to a SVCD, it will not play in my Philips DVD player. The model number for the player is DVD623. It states perfectly clearly in the manual that SVCD is supported, yet it won't play for some reason.

Just some notes:
1) The whole capturing process was done with VirtualDub 1.4.13. What settings might I try so I don't lose hardly any frames, and what settings should I use to make sure I do not lose any audio data?

2) I used VCDImagerGUI to convert this file to a .bin image, I burned it with CDRWin 3.9C.

3) My system specifications are as follows:
Pentium 4 @ 2.0GHz, 256 DDR RAM.
Video capture device: e-GeForce4 Ti-4600 128mb.
Audio capture device: Sound Blaster Audigy 1 card.
DMA for my hard drive is turned on by the way.

If anyone could answer these questions I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

I am doing this on a regular basis using virtual dub 1.4.13 and capturing at 400*300 using huffyuv codec. Compression 1.9, PCM wav audio. I end up with about 13 files @2gb. Frame drop about 2 or 3 maximum.
System: - Athlon 1gz. ATI all in wonder radion. ATI all in wonder video capture.
hope this helps
regards
Tabriz

Sorry, but that really doesn't help me very much, I am using the DivX 4.12 Codec to capture my vhs tapes. Also, what do you mean by Compression 1.9? Where might I find that? Do you have any idea about how I might fix the audio problem?

Firstly, Phillips units are fussy with SVCD's. Try different CDR media and try the disk you burnt in a friends DVD Player to see if it works.

Upgrade your drivers for your Sound card, its obviously having problems. SoundBlaster audio cards have presented lots of problems for others trying to capture.

To captrure without frame dropping, you need a 100% perfect machine with absolutely no conflicfs anywhere as there is an enormouse amount of data that needs to be streamed to the HD in real time. All cables must be premium quality (even those VHS to PC) and well seated. Defrag the HD and make sure nothong is running in the background (Virus checkers, screen savers, icq, Nortons crap, etc etc) DMA must be on for your HD and latest drivers for the chipset of your MB. Are there later drivers for your Video/Capture card ? All these things must be perfect else anyone of them can bring the performance down for capturing.

A good site to do some reading is http://www.lukesvideo.com/

ChickenMan, thanks, but earlier today I got the SVCD working properly on my DVD Player, turns out that the SVCD didn't burn correctly for some reason, I guess it was because I was burning at too high of a speed, today I burned the .bin image with CDRWin to the cd-r at 4x, and it was pretty good. Also, for the video capture drivers, I unfortunately had to revert back to nVidia WDM 1.08, instead instead of the most recent drivers, due to the fact that other users on VCDHelp.com had trouble with nVidia's latest drivers, due to a bug that causes a big white rectangle in the middle of the captured film. Ever since I reverted back I haven't had any problems. I also tried increasing the buffer sizes for both Audio and Video, we'll see how that turns out. I haven't defragged my HD recently, and as I stated in the original post, DMA for my HD is definately on. I do have some apps running in the background, but not too much, I try to keep it to a minimum of IE6 and mIRC 6.03, and of course VirtualDub 1.4.13 for capturing. I've tried lukesvideo.com, that seems to be a pretty good site, considering I just found it yesterday . Thanks for the help.
