VHS to DVD

First, I want to say thanks to Chickenman and DVDecrypter, the DVD tutorial was great and so easy to use!!! Thanks so much!!

Now I hope I am posting to the correct place, sorry if Im not.

Here's my problem, my boss wants me to copy all the old VHS tapes of shoreline to DVD (Im not sure how many there are but I think at least 50 fully used tapes). I know this is gonna be a huge project and I am just wondering what program I would need to get this job done. Also, if anyone would have an estimate of how long a project like this would take just so I can keep him quiet for a bit.
I have a DELL 8200 running WinXP, Pentium 4, 2.0 GHz, 256 MB RAM and I installed an ATI All InWonder 8500 which came with some ATI software, Mediator 6 and ULEAD. I find them all a little complex to use and when recording from my Sony camcorder the picuter is really choppy.
Anything I know about converting files I've thought myself, so I dont really feel confident with this project...Is anyone able to help?
Thanks in advance

First your going to need a good VHS unit in tip top condition, 6 head minimum, to get good results. Recently I've been playing with my nvidia card with capturing facilities and tried just about every capture program known to man. I've settled on Ulead VideoStudio 7 as its simple to use and can capture to dvd mpg or avi. Though the free VirtualDUB was also good.

Capturing is in real time. ie 1hr to capture a 1hr of tape. I tend to capture to avi, then encode with DVD2SVCD /w CCE to DVD compliant video & audio streams, then author in Maesto (add menu if needed) and burn out with Nero. Works great for me.

A good site to get some capturing tips from is http://www.lukesvideo.com/ and also http://www.virtualdub.org/docs_capture
