vhs to dvd tranfer hlp req

i have a three vhs tapes that contain a mini series with each tape about two hours long roughly, idealy id like to transfer them to dvd as vhs tape will break down etc over time each tape is one long episode without commercial breaks original as bought but the series is almost impossible to get now
and its not on dvd already either. how and what do i need to have to transfer
vhs to dvd or svcd what ever is the easiest method but id like to keep the quality as good as possible

Easiest method would be to use a standalone record. Just hook your VCR up and hit record. Can't get much simpler than that.

Other option is to capture to PC, encode, author and burn. Capture options range from USB type devices, to Digital to analogue converters either via a card/box or DV camera to PCI cards or AIW type video cards. When capturing to PC you can go the direct to MPEG2 type option or capture to a temp AVI for later editing, filtering, etc. and then encode to MPEG2.

You might not want to use full DVD res, but say go for half res instead so as to fit more.
