Vegas 4.0b update & Sonic Foundry DVD Architect 1.0b

Notable fixes/changes in version 4.0b April 7 2003

Enhanced support for 24 fps, progressive-scan video. Editing your video in 24p can give you the same frame cadence as film that has been transferred to video and simplifies your workflow if your final production is destined for film. Support for the Panasonic AG-DVX100 24p camcorder allows you to shoot, edit, and render 24p DV video, including pre-renders, external monitor support and print-to-tape. For more information, please see "Working with 24p Progressive-Scan Video" in the online help.

A new preference has been added to the General tab in the Preferences dialog. Select the Allow pulldown removal when opening 24p DV check box if you want Vegas to remove pulldown when you open 24 fps progressive-scan DV video files.

When the check box is cleared, Vegas will read 24p video as 29.97 fps interlaced video (60i).

Project frame sizes up to 2048 x 2048 are now allowed for AVI, MPEG, QuickTime, RealMedia, Windows Media, and still-image output is 2048x2048. The Windows Media 9, MPEG-2, and RealMedia 9 plug-ins include new HD rendering templates.

A new preference has been added to the General tab in the Preferences dialog. Select the Enable Joystick Support check box if you want to use a joystick to control panning, color corrector wheels, and other controls. Clearing the check box can prevent problems with copy-protection dongles.

A new control has been added to the Video Device tab in the Preferences dialog. Drag the Record engage delay (frames) slider to specify the number of frames it takes your camcorder or deck to switch from Record Pause to Record mode. If you're missing frames from the beginning of your file after printing to tape, increase the setting. If you see duplicated frames at the beginning of your video, decrease the setting.

When you're rendering a project, the rendering progress is now displayed in the Vegas taskbar button.

Expanded support for various sound cards with improved error handling.

General improvements to audio time stretching.

Optimized audio recording performance.

Direct Sound Surround Mapper has been added as a choice in the Audio device type drop-down list.

Keyboard modifiers have been added to allow fine adjustment of envelope points:

Hold Ctrl while dragging an envelope point or segment to adjust the value in fine increments without changing the envelope points' timeline positions.

Hold Ctrl+Alt while dragging an envelope point or segment to adjust the value in normal increments without changing the envelope points' timeline positions.

Hold Alt while dragging an envelope point to move the point's timeline position without changing its value.

You can now use PostScript fonts in the Credit Roll and Text plug-ins.

The Build Dynamic RAM Preview command now builds a dynamic RAM preview using the loop region even if no time selection is present.

A problem has been fixed that caused a lag when scrubbing in the Trimmer window using a ShuttlePro.

A bug has been fixed that prevented still-image files from automatically previewing from the Vegas Explorer under Windows 98se and Windows Me.

A problem has been fixed that prevented you from rendering to RealMedia 8 if another application had installed a different version of the RealMedia plug-in to your system folder.

A bug has been fixed that could cause Vegas to crash if you duplicated tracks during playback.

A bug has been fixed that could cause Vegas to create empty .w64 files when recording for long periods to FAT32 drives.

A bug has been fixed that prevented the active input monitor from closing if you closed Vegas while recording with record input monitoring active.

A bug has been fixed that caused Vegas to crash if you attempted to record two audio files with the same name simultaneously.

Sonic Foundry DVD Architect 1.0b

Notable changes/fixes in version 1.0b
DVD Architect now supports 24 fps, progressive-scan video. Render your video using the DVD Architect 24p NTSC video stream MPEG-2 template in Vegas, and DVD Architect will use the stream without recompression. 24p video uses less space on a DVD, allowing you to add more video or use a higher bit rate than you could with 60i video.

A bug has been fixed that could cause DVD Architect to crash when editing text if your Windows input locale is set to anything other than English.
