Vcr

I want to copy from my VCR and burn the results to CDR, does anyone know of a Good Tutorial to help a complete beginner out.
Thanx Mac.

you will need a video capture card, then use virtual dub to capture it as an avi file (it will be big file though, depending how long your video is). Then just follow the tutorials by ChickenMan for the output you desire.
You say CDR, but do you just want it like that (avi video)? or do you want to make a divx out of it or vcd?
If VCD, it is best this method & then using tmpgenc for the mpeg 1 conversion. Using a capture card that captures directly as vcd format or mpeg isn't as good (as they don't look as nice as tmpgenc output).
Hope that helps.
Good luck

vcd svcd dvd

capture from

the problem with that joanna (as I mentioned before) is capturing straight to vcd/svcd you will lose more quality than capturing straight to avi & then converting it to vcd or svcd.
Ofcourse some people don't mind lower quality videos & it does save time.
I have tested that card & I know its quality. straight to DVD (well no other choice, but the vcd & svcd won't be as good. You can spend $2000 on a card for that & it still won't be as good as avi to vcd.

If your source is a VCR you don't have to worry much about quality anyway, so if you hardware is capable to capture to mpeg2 i'll go this way.
Going avi you'll need a really big and fast second hard drive NTFS formatted.

ya that is true ponzan (I did mention a very large file size). Anything larger than 4gigs will require NTFS (though I have heard there is a way to go past 4gigs on fat32 *but also heard it isn't very good lol, so scratch that idea).
Mpeg2 though will still require a large size (just make sure you know how long it is & stay under the 4gig limit if on fat32).

Thanx to everyone, I think iv'e got the gist of it, with a bit of trial and error I might even get the hang of it. Mac

Thanks again joripe, not so straight forward as it first seems, you'll soon be hearing from me again by the looks of it. Mac
