VCD blockiness problems, Chickenman's help needed!!

Hi to all I am new to the forum but have been playing with DVD to VCD process for a while...

A extra greeting to Chickenman... we have a mutual friend i believe and he suggested that you might be able to help!

I have been ripping most dvd's using smartripper, dvd2avi, Tmpgenc 2.55 (i Think) and nero. and am running xp pro with integrated SP1 I have had some very successful rips but at times they go patchy.. what i mean to say is i have a great run for a while and then all of a sudden i get a batch that make me cry.
The lament of a ripper i expect!
My main issue is that i will get what i think is a perfect finished product then i play it, all in all it is perfectexcept that randomly it has severe blockiness, and makes all sorts of tweek and bleep noises, occaisionally this will split frames onscreen through the blockiness prob (eg. top 1/2 of screen is Frame 12, bottom 1/2 is frame13 or worse).
I am constantly having hardware issues with my machines(currently my ti 4200, AGP), and fully expect this to contribute to my probs. But i would surely kick myself if it was somthing that was easily corrected.

Any help would be muchly appreciated.

Hester...

i use the same gear as always...

and yes it happens on both my standalone and my pc yet the pc seems to handle it better and it happens heaps less.

thanx again

i use to get those probs too.the solution was to change the brand of cdr's i was using to better ones.also try lowering the encoding bitrate.if its too high it can cause those same issues as described...to certain dvd players.hope this helps and goodluck!

Dont believe a word he said, it wasnt me, I didnt do it :D :D Welcome to the forum.

Slow your burn speed down m8, that should fix your problem. If your getting a different playback (as you described) of the one CD from the PC and the standalone, then its to high burn speed, variable media quality or your burner is a bit flakie. What speed do you burn them at ?

Thanx for the reply chickenman.

My burner is ???? 20x10x40 and probably near enough to 1200 burns old, i have alway's burned vcd's at 8 or recently i only burn at 4 due to issues. I have been using a cheap qual cd "Play" Blue bottom, am about to try a "Melody" Gold and i also have a new 52x24x52 liteon turning up tomorrow.

Thanx again.

Then it sounds like the old berner is just about ready for filing in that little round receptical :D

In my years of burning, I never have problems burning blue bottomed CDR's but if any have playback problems, its always them. Those Play CDR's are jusr crappy Princos under another name, avoid them like the plague.
