using tmpgenc plus

Sometimes when finishing converting avi to mpeg-1, I have sound and sometimes not.
I use it exactly the same way.
Is there something I should be looking for??
I was trying to use it for splitting and converting the avi file.
I also have the problem with a few avi files in Virtualdub, with incorrect VBR, and don't know what to do next.
Any help (keep it simple) would be great

Yes its bloody annoying.
Half the divx movies on the net have incorrect headers or other problems.
I always split the audio out.
It just saves hassle!

And not all DivX are created the same. DivX codec 3.1, 4.x or 5.x and now Xvid codec for the Video. For audio it can be either MP3, VBR MP3, AC3, Ogg, stereo or even mono, etc And far to many are made quickly to be the first net poster rather than take the time and make a quality DivX.

See the Tutorials on how to handle VBR MP3's correctly.

I found out how to use Virtual dub in full processing mode , and set video and audio compression.
After I have done that , then V/Dub will split it and Tmpgenc will encode to mpeg.
I can now watch loads of films i downloaded on my widescreen TV.
It just takes a lot of time.
