Using System Restore in XP
Just a suggestion...In light of software and hardware incompatabilities with XP,I would advise NOT to disable System Restore.

In fact I create a restore point PRIOR to installing new software and hardware.For example,before installing Winon cd 5,I would create a restore point.Just call it ,before Winon 5.It has helped me on a couple of occasions.It's not perfect,but just might help you out.

This one of the best feature Windows XP brings with :)
For those who want to do whole backups, I would suggest to use Norton Ghost ..
