Usb removable hd-s

Just a warning for people who think about buying a regular hd and usb case..
I bougfht a hd and a case 6 months ago..hd was maxtor 160gb..
had a hd die in a few weeks(lost about 70 gb of audio-mostly compressed high quality like mpc,ogg,lame-aps)..
Yesterday my hd died again-same again(maxtor)..
Ither buy regular external one or internal..
Just a advice.
i guess im overfrustrated...

I would guess that cooling may be a problem, unless the case has a fan, or a thermal transfer pad from the HDD top plate to a case panel heatsink.

Using a Maxtor in a case like that, it may also be as well to use the AMSET utility to put the drive in quiet mode, as it might reduce the power usage under seek conditions (it may require the drive rigged as standard IDE, in order to set the mode... the setting is stored in the drive).
