Uninstalling Media Player 9?

I'm running Win XP Pro and have recently installed Windows Media Player 9. I have had nothing but problems since.
Either the player crashes altogether or keeps disappearing behind other windows, or altogether vanishes even when no other window is open. It's still on the taskbar, and clicking it on the taskbar is not always successful in bringing it back.

What I would like to do is uninstall this pecker and put version 7 back on. (what happened to version 8?) Only thing is I cannot seem to find a way to properly uninstall 9. I looked in Add/Remove Programs, no option there. I tried Windows Components, no option there either. And of course the players folder does not contain an uninstall program, (go figure).

I was so desperate to eradicate this beast that I decided to just erase the contents of the Windows Media Player folder and then install 7 over-top of whatever files were scattered around on my system. That didn't work either. Apparently XP discovered the files had been deleted and replaced them before I could install version 7.

I'm going crazy here. I only use the WMP for web development. It's pretty bad when I try showing a customer how I have embedded the video of their kids birthday into an HTML page, only to have the sucker crash to the desktop, repeatedly. Or while having them bring in the video's so that we can view them and make editing and layout decisions, to keep having the player perform it's magical disappearing act. It does in fact reflect badly on myself and my abilities.

Any help in killing version 9 and resurrecting version 7 would be greatly appreciated.

Reguardless of my thoughtless action in installing without backup, the problem now exists and I find myself in need of assistance in repairing this error.

(ain't you ever had a bad day dude?)

just a guess but i know it happens with some programs......if u do a system restore to the time before u installed wma9 will that not remove it? like i said i know it has removed some programs i installed

I gave System Restore a thought. But then decided against it for just that reason. I will loose other things that have been added or changed since the WMP9 installation.
In my mind a System Restore, (to an earlier restore point of course), would more then likely cause me more greif then the WMP does now. I am really hoping that there is a way to revert back to version 7 without the loss of any changes made after the version 9 install.

Backing up data has always played an important role on my pc. Why on earth I didn't choose to do so this time is beyond me. I've gotta wonder if there isn't some blonde hairs sneaking in with the new grey ones.

Damn pokopiko, you sure are putting some effort into this. I appreciate that. BTW, I've already been to read the whiners postings about all the bugs. Hopefully my post here isn't construed as whining, :) . I just couldn't, (can't), find a solution to this problem on my own this time.
