Unable to retrieve backed up files

I need your help...I backed up all important files to a DVD prior to re-formatting the HDD on my PC. Now I have rebooted and re-installed everything, when I try to get to the files off of the DVD it tells me the media is incorrect or its unable to access. The DVD RW drive works OK as another disc works fine. Any ideas as to how I can get my files back onto my PC?

have you tried ISO BUSTER or other disk recovery tools ?!

Hi, I am using XP as my os, to back up my DVD....well I had so much stuff on the PC, my kids put every thing possible onto the hard drive, so I am not totally sure. It was probably the software that came with the sony 510a DVD R/RW. The other disk I have with some photos on works Ok and I did nothing different! Thanks

me thinks, the troublemaker could be a driver or burning software which locks the drive for itself;
1. disable IMAPI and go for ForceASPI 1.7: http://www.dvdrbase.com/showthread.php?t=32137
2. reboot
3. uninstall all packet writing software like InCD, DirectCD/DVD, DLA ...
4. reboot
5. download and apply Ahead's clean pack: http://www.ahead.de/en/631938356417810.html
6. reboot
7. try your luck again

if this prodcedure won't help its time for a recovering tool like < Isobuster > or the almighty < CD/DVD Diagnostic >;

Thanks for all your help and advice, however I still cannot get the data off of my DVD. I am going to try ISOBUSTER to see what happens....Keep up the good work and thanks again for the advice and guidence..

If you used nero 6.0.....to backup your files then that may be the problem, I have used up all my 10 Datawrite DVD-R's and only one of them works the rest don't show any files on them, but if I view the disks with nero the files are there??

the disk is maby not closed in this case !? perhaps its a multi session in nero add another file and then choose to close /finalise the disk in nero you should be then able to read the disk without nero

dvds are not the greatest at muliti session burning
