The NW-MS70D makes full use of both current ATRAC3 audio compression and the new ATRAC3plus technologies to compress audio data to about 1/20th that needed for CDs while maintaining superb sound quality. This makes it possible to record the equivalent of around 11 music CDs (approx. 11 hr 40 min) in the unit's 256MB internal memory. In addition, the optional 64MB MagicGate Memory Stick Duo media allows recording and transfer of around two CDs worth (approx. 2 hr 50 min) of music A 128MB media increases this capacity to around 5 CDs (approx. 5 hr 50 min). (1)
The tiny size of Memory Stick Duo media lets engineers add so much more capacity to a tiny package measuring roughly 36.4 x 48.5 x 18.0mm (approx. 1.4 x 1.9 x 0.7in). This ultra-compact body has great strength thanks to use of seamless titanium- alloy construction. Plus, the entire package is finished with a special ionized coating that makes the unit scratch-resistant. The supplied neck-strap lets users stylishly wear and enjoy the Network Walkman.
A newly developed LSI with VE-CORE circuitry reduces power consumption by approx. 80 percent compared to previous Network Walkman models. This allows around 33 hours of continuous operation (2) from the built-in rechargeable battery. A supplied cradle allows direct USB linkage to a PC, while doubling as the recharger to completely recharge the battery in around 90 minutes. As with previous models, transfer of music files from a PC to the Network Walk-man is powered via the USB interface.
The NW-MS70D Network Walkman will be released in the Japanese market on February 10, along with 64MB MagicGate Memory Stick Duo media. 128MB capacity media will be available from March 21. In the U.S., the MS70D will be available from this spring with other regions to follow.
