Two PC's One Monitor

Hiya :)

Was wondering if anyone could recommend a switch to link 2 PC's (side by side) to share my DVI monitor, keyboard and mouse?

Thanx

Viper is right on

I use a KVM switch (Keyboard Video Mouse) to switch between PC's (didnt want to network em)

Very handy tool mine works by button on the KVM box or from keyboard.

Google search for KVM switch will reveal many sources

Mine cost £50 which included the two cables from the KVM box to the 2 PC's (your keyboard monitor mouse cables go into the box IE one in two out

U can of course by KVm's which can switch between more PC's but minesa 2 PC jobbie.

Thanx for the reply guys :)
I see there's an whole multitude of KVM's out there. To connect up my DVI monitor, do I need a dedicated DVI KVM? or could I get away with a DVI to Analog adapter on one of the ports? Not quite sure how I would set this up ????
One PC has DVI, the other Analog. I'm also connected to a network. Can I transfer files between these 2 PC's?

Thanx

i think the KVM is purely for sharing keyboards and mice and monitors no data !?

If u are networked to the other machine im sure that you can still share files between them !?

So long as both machines are on and logged onto :)

kvm

i went to that site......and prices are really high..for something like that..If you got some time..you can doit yourself...........You will just need soldering gun and unimetar(to check resistance at the end and to be sure that switch is cutting off on all contacts..to see if its everything works ok)..it might not be pretty as retail....but will work same(its just a switch)..Otherwise........you can almost buy new mouse,kb and monitor for same money..Like..i bought a brand new logitech keybord and mouse for 40$canadian..wireless..few weeks ago...Also..when i was putting a third dish for satellite..........i needed a switch 3@1..It was 88 dollars in store..Like some specialy enhenced---says salesman(what a joke)..found some alternative for few$.Anyway..if you bgot some spare time..check it out..if not..buy in store as suggested.. :)

Not exactly a dab hand with the soldering iron for that option. There are some reasonable priced 2 port KVM's out there approx £20.
My only queiry is about DVI connectivity, do I need a dedicated DVI KVM (expensive) or would an adpter (DVI to Analog) survice?

Thanx
