Two domains on single LAN, BUT I DONT WANT BOTH VISIBLE

Hi,

I want to establish two domains on a single LAN. Currently i am using 192.168.0.0 series & 192.168.3.0 series for both domains. I want both network should not see each other. (i.e In network neighborhood only that domain will be visible). but its happning here. I tried using one LAN on 192.168.0.0 series & other on 172.1.1.0 series but still both the domains r visible. subnet mask for both are 255.255.255.0 & 255.255.0.0 resp. Regs, Wating for help.

Have you specified a gateway address?

If you have NO gateway (router) and have NOT specified a (void) address, it may be directly passing packets to the other address range, expecting something else to deal with it - and that just happens to be that they are on the same network!

try specifying a gateway - and set an unused address within the range - it might work...

try turning off 'netbios over ip' in the tcp/ip settings. also make sure that netbeui and ipx aren't active on the segment.

I am using novell also. for that i need ipx/spx protocol. i disabled netbios over tcp/ip. also removed netbuei protocol. still problem is comming....

try this

LAN/Group 1 - 172.16.XXX.XXX
LAN/Group 2 - 192.168.XXX.XXX

this way the networks (if i remember correctly) *shouldnt* see each other unless u deliberately bridge them

- - - - - - - -

If ur using WXP on your computers - u can enable "network access control using IEEE.802.1X" and allow clients with a certain computer_name have access.
