Trying to play spiderman - saying ...

quick time plays MOV files not avi download a copy of divx 5.02 and use the play that comes with it and all should be fine :D

Install the DivX codec ( from _www.divx.com ) and then play the AVI with Windows Media Player. The Playa that comes with DivX codec has more problems than WMP when it comes to playing DivX movies.

Well, downloaded and installed the 5.0.2 and ...still the same. WMP says unsupported type. I tried Irfanview, which played the first 5 seconds in a tiny box, but then froze. I'll keep trying.

When i installed it, it came up as a newer file was already installed, overwrite newer file ? And this time it was ME that froze ! I am always wary of such messages so I didnt. I'm wondering if its worth all this bother. I dont know what was in the blokes mind who upped it to the ftp I got it from !

Woth the bother, only you can answer that one.

The big problem with DivX movies as every one has made them differently. Some make then as quike as possible, some take their time and use "standard" codec. Then everyone installs every DivX codec known to man and then wonders why less play than they did before!

Its very rare to find a DivX that cant be played with DivX 3.11 and 5.x installed only. Then its more of an Audio problem rather than video.

Install 3.11 and say yes this time.

i have no probs playing spiderman with windows media player
just a thought have you told it to play all formats

open media player
tools / options / formats / select all / apply

then try it again

I have that same file and sometimes it plays and sometimes it doesn't, you have to coax it alittle. Try powerDVD in file mode to see if it works. I'll also post a divx player that i like to use.

It really is a head scratcher. I did the select all file types, and same again. No difference. Really odd.
Tried Sasami with no luck at all. I may as well dump the movie, its just taking up space and if not playing, its of no use.:(
