Trying to burn DVD's

Hi I have an MATSHITA DVD-RAM LF-D310 In my computer and on the website for the burner it say's: Matshita DVD-RAM LF-D310 DVD-R (General Media), (DVD-RAM Media Supported).
I baught a spool of 50 - DVD's, but when I put them in the drive it says that there is no media in the drive. I am using InstantCD+DVD from VOB, which I believe is now Pinnacle.Instantcopy.v7.0, whic I also have but not instaled.
Anyone with any idea's as to what I may be doing wrong. Do I have to prepare the media to make a DATA DVD? I do not like using it as a floppy, I got burned doing that with a CD-Rom burner. Lost a lot of stuff. Any help would be great.

@ Irish Bear,

You state “I bought a spool of 50 - DVD's, but when I put them in the drive it says that there is no media in the drive.”

What type of DVD Media did you actually purchase? There are 3 types of DVD Media available (DVD-R, DVD+R, and DVD-RAM). Your MATSHITA DVD-RAM LF-D310 will only support the use of DVD-R and/or DVD-RAM Media.

If perchance you did purchase the correct DVD Media for your MATSHITA DVD-RAM LF-D310 have you ensured that you have the latest Firmware installed for your MATSHITA DVD-RAM LF-D310? The FirmWare Page (http://www.firmware.fr.st/) displays A128 as the latest Firmware available for the (Panasonic) MATSHITA DVD-RAM LF-D310.

Also have you ensure that your MATSHITA DVD-RAM LF-D310 is installed correctly in your computer? Is the IDE channel (Master/Slave/Cable Select) set up correctly?

Re: trying to burn DVD's

Hi Coaster.
I did indeed buy DVD-R Media, I put a "spool of 50 - DVD" my mistake. And I did download the new firmware update for the the DVD Ram/R. I have the DVD setup as the master on the secondery Ide, and a 48 speed burner as the slave. Is this correct?
I have been using the burner for a good while without any problems.
The first disk I put in i pressed Instant write by mistake, and it went off and prepared the disk for use as a floppy. When it was ready I tried to copy some files over to it, and all seemed to be going correctly, files seemed to be going to the disk. But when it was finished, I could not see anything on the disk.

And thanks to The-poacher for pointing me to meet some other people.

:(

Hi bud...my first thought is to upgrade the VOB software.I would also not use Instant Write.

A better method would be to use the Instant Copy module of the software to create a data disc by dropping/dragging files into the project.;)Your hardware configuration seems fine.

Hi Woody,
I was saying that in my first post. I do not like using this method. I happened to press it by mistake. I tried to upgrade the software, and was led to a page telling me that Pinnicle had taken over this software. So I have Pinnicle 7, but not installed yet! I got badly burned doing that with my CD_Burner, using as a floppy. I coppied a lot of stuff over to CD and deleted it from my coputer. Very soon after I could not read the software on my own computer, and not at all on another computer, even with the reader software installed.

Thanks for your reply.

Okay, was a bit confused. The VOB software you have is old,and probably won't support your dvd burner. There is nothing special to burning a data disc like you want.Just drag, and drop the files you want to save to a data disc, and make sure the disc is closed(finalized)so you will be able to read it.

Install the Pinnacle software which will be compatible with your dvd drive.Or better yet,get Stomp Record now Max which is one of the best softwares for dvd burning data, and video files.

On another note,I am using Nero with my Dvd burner, but there are lots of reports of problems with it.I use it for Dvd video, and data discs. It's been good for me.;)

Hi Woody,
I have the latest version of nero on my computer, but did not realise that it would burn DVD's. Thanks. I will go hunting for "Stomp Record now Max " and install that instead of Pinnicle.
The VOB software was what came with the burner. I did manage to copy a DVD movie with DVDXCopy.
Thanks...............Irish Bear.

Nice one woody,
I got Stomp RecordNow MAX v4.50 Platinum and bingo. I burned my first data DVD, Thanks a lot for that bit of info.

Glad you got it sorted out bud!RecordNowMax is the favourite dvd burning software (my opinion). Most people swear by it.Not at it!;)
