Trouble with Color Schemes (Divx to DVD)

I have been going over your tutorial of Divx to DVDR and I am having one major problem. The conversion using DVD2SVCD works fine besides the fact that the colors are way off. People's skin appears blue! What can I do? I think it might have something to do with the avi's using the Xvid codec.

I have converted XviD encoded files with both TMPGEnc and CCE without problems.

Assuming that you are using CCE to encode, how does your AVISynth script look? Are the colours correct?

The wrong Xvid codec installed canl give you wrong colours on encoding regardless of what encoder you used. What Xvid codec (whos build and date/release version) do you have installed? Use the ones I mention in the Tute, I/ve been using Nic's (not the beta versions) from http://nic.dnsalias.com/ with no probs what so ever.

I'm actually only having problems with Divx now. I have Divx Pro 5.05. The skin tones on the divx itself are normal, but the skin tones on the bbMPEG Muxed File turn out to be blue. I do not know what to look for on the AviSynth file to fix it. After re-installing the codecs, it seems that my XVIDs are working fine, but my Divx files are still giving me the very blue skin tone. I simply use the preview video (still picture) in DVD2SVCD to tell what the picture will look like.

As for now, XVID seems to be working perfectly.
ChickenMan, your doing some great community service with your knowledge. I'm sure I speak for everybody when I say thank you.

Thanks again

Couldnt agree more But there are others on the forum whose knowledge is invaluable & who share it willingly:D

And Long May It Be So!!!!!!!!

I have succesfully burned an Xvid for the first time. I still can not burn a Divx though because even just looking at a preview before I start converting in DVD2SVCD shows a strong blue tint. Any more suggestions?

I wouldn't use DivX3 for decoding, there is a bug in the VFW decoder and it will serve the video up as RGB and therefor result in slower encoding times and lower quality video.

If the DivX was originally encoded with DivX 3.11 then your suggesting not to use it for decoding. Then can you please suggest an alternative to jschwak that will overcome his/her problem.

Longer encoding times with divx3.11, who cares, as long as it works. Lower quality video, by what margin? Theoretically you may be correct, in practice, again who cares as long as it works.

This forum is amazing. I downloaded the GSpot program and it found that one of my divx codecs was corrupted or missing a file. I had to reinstal the codec and then reinstall DVD2SVCD before it would finally work. I have succesfully burned my home movies. Thanks for all of your help. I think what your doing is great.

I don't know if I should start a new post, but I had a question about putting multiple avi's (of inferior quality) on the same DVD. How would I go about doing this using the same methods explained in the tutorial. And Finally what is the best way to make a DVD menu when I have multiple avis on the same DVD? Should I use TMPGEnc Authoring?

Thanks so much

Something else interesting, from the AVISynth docs:

SwapUV swaps chroma channels (U and V) of a clip. Sometimes the colors are distorted (faces blue instead of red, etc) when loading a DivX or MJPEG clip in AviSynth v2.5, due to a bug in DivX (?). You can use this filter to correct it.

Yes a new thread would be better, but hey, your already posted it.

Yep, I commonly put 2 avi's encoded to 1/2 a DVDR. So in DVD2SVCD's Bitrate Tab, set CD size to 2200 ( 1/2 of 4400) for 2 per DVDR or 1466 for 3. Set Audio to 192 and encode. I tend to author in Maestro and I just make a simple menus from a JPG file I make in Paint Shop Pro. Or you can just use TMPGenc DVD Authgor or better still, DVDLab. Both are very simple to use and you can create simple Menus with each.
