trouble burning dvd-r from tmpgenc dvd author file

this is my first post. I have a TDK indiDVD multi format burner which has been working fine until recently. I have no problem making dvd copies using dvd decryptor +dvd fab + instant copy burning to any format. My problem is the conversion of an avi file to mpeg to disc using virtual dub + tmpg enc + tmpg enc dvd author and then trying to burn with instant copy. I can burn to a Maxell DVD+RW perfectly but when I try to burn to (at this point) Imation & Sony DVD-R I get a couple of seconds of burn and then the process freezes with various error messages on sector problems. I just updated the firmware to 1.08 tonight and still couldn't get the Imation to work. So I have wasted way too many DVD-r blanks at this point and need some experienced help. Any ideas???

Welcome to the forum. First I take a guess that this is your drive TDK 440N
Second you don't say what version of your software you have. Third how about you tell us what dvd decryptor says for Manufacturer ID of dvd media that you use. :)

Start DVD Decrypter => Source (drive where you have blank rw) => Mode => ISO => Read (make sure the check is on read) Then your box on the right will look something like this:

I would think your problem is and I quote CMC MAG (CMC magnetics) is "Cheaply Made Crap"! But I don't know about that media I've never used it but I did find a couple of post saying the same thing. :) When I asked what version of your software you have I meant burning software but I don't thing thats your problem. I've read that people where having luck with Ritek G04 (-R) also you drive is the same as the NEC 1300A. I don't have your drive but I would say a good place to start to fix your problem would be with good media. Maybe another member who has this drive can recommend a good dvd-r media. Hope that helps and let us know how you make out.

I also read about the cmc mag discs and this may be the situation although one sony dvd-r did the same thing when burning the authored avi file. I did not have any problem with 2 other sony discs when doing a straight copy going from DVD Decrypter to DVD Fab to Instant Copy. I just can't figure out why the avi conversion does not burn on the dvd-r but has no problem with the maxell dvd+rw. It may be the "crap discs". I just hate to waste more money on the same result potential. Thanks for the help!

I don't know where you are but in the US I've brough back crap media to compusa and told them what I though of it and got my money back. Also I know of people who had gotten bad media from online places * and gotten a refund towards new media. You just might want to double check before you buy. Good luck.

So are you burning the folders (I take it it is, VIDEO_TS + AUDIO_TS) using TMPGEnc DVD Author? If so make sure you are using the latest version (1.5.15.49) to do this, I have had problems myself in the past with earlier versions when burning even to Ritek G04 media.

Have you tried converting the VIDEO_TS folder to an iso image with it and then burning that back? If that fails try using DVD Decrypter to burn it. Does that work? It could well be your media of course - and in situations such as this when trying to find where a problem lies it is sensible, and cost effective, to use a DVDRW disc until you identify the problem.

CMC MAG. dvdr are also Verbatum DVD-R's, CMC Magnetics can and do make some very good dvdr's. I have been using them for quite some time now with my Pioneer A05 without a problem. I have also been using dvd-r's with manuf code of GSC001 (by Giga Storage, owned by Ritek I understand) under many different names (Pio-Data, MaxData, DataBank) and they work great as well.
