Toshiba DVD-R/RW

Hi all

Have a Toshiba 6100 laptop with a DVD-R/RW multifunction drive, 1GB RAM and WinXP Pro with SP1a. I have no problems in writing to and/or reading CD's i.e.CD-R's and CD-RW's. Also no problems viewing DVD movies or listening to music on DVD's

The problem: can not write to DVD +RW, have turned off IMAPI, have tried Nero 6, have done a factory restore but no luck at all. Have searched Toshiba and MIcrsoft web sites, all they say is to apply the latest patch which is SP 1a.

I don't know any Toshiba portable DVD burner which can handle +R media... just -R.
Mine is an SD-R 6112, and it certainly has no idea what +R is.

Thanks for your prompt reply I have a SD-R 6012 burner which would be similar to yours. Will get -R media, try it out and keep you all posted

Just use -RW media, and all will be fine.
BTW avoid Princo -RW media, after 4-5 burns they will become unusable... thay are THAT crap. Ricoh and Mitsubishi -RW should fare WAY better.

burning speed

hi all.
i have an acer travelmate 291lmi with a toshiba sd-r6112. win xp

i have been using nero 6 and it is taking almost an hour to burn a 4.5gb dvd-r at 2x (dvd-video mode)

does this sound right to you?

i have done a speed measurement and it is more than capable of writing at the 2,760kb (comes up as 55.5x!) but when i do a simulation/ burn the read speed comes up as closer to 1x. i am using nero 6.0.0.11

any ideas?

thanks
:)

1. Check your other post about the issue,
2. Do not confuse the CD and DVD burning speeds... they have no relation between them (and by the way 2760k for CD is about 18X, not 55.5X- how did you calculate that?).

thanks for your reply.

sorry about the confusion. the 2,760 KB/s i mentioned is the speed of dvd-r burning at 2x.

the 55.5x was the speed measurement reading that nero displayed when running a speed measurement test. i think this only applies to the maximum speed that data can be transferred from the hdd. i am sure that my writer could not actually burn dvd's at that speed (unfortunately!)

as it turns out it was a media problem. i have got a selection of blank dvd-r's and i am currently testing them. i will post results in the other thread.

thanks again

ging
