If you are trying to convert directly from CD/DVD then ASPI layer is required. Search in the net for "forceaspi 1.7". There is also a newer version of ForceASPI (1.8) which installs layer 4.7X which is definitely NOT recommended, especially since you run Windows 2000.

;) Uninstall and install TMPGEnc 2.513.53.162-Plus. :p

Just wondering what the original error has to do with ASPI layers?

Does the AVI use XviD for video compression? If so what XviD build are you running?

Hi try this open Tmpgenc click on options / enviromentol settings / vfapi plugins then make sure 'direct show multimeadia file reader ' has a priority of 1. do this by right clicking on it.

Just wanted to let U know. I was getting the same error and I tried what budwiser said and it worked. I am running TMpge now, I'll Let U know how the video comes out. Didn't try the aspi layer thing, just the direct show thing but it got rid of the error message. Thanx budwiser

Glad it helped , but must admit me being a newbie its something i picked up off a wiser man on another forum.
Happy encoding.

If moving the directshow priority fixes the error then it suggests that there was a problem with the VFW decoder.

In my experience this is caused by a file which uses XviD for video compression and an old build of XviD installed, which is why I originally asked if the file was XviD.

If this is the case then installing a more uptodate build of XviD would also solve the problem, with no need to change TMPGEnc's VFAPI plugin settings.
