Time/Tiny computer Hell (Supanet lock-in)

http://www.dvdrbase.com/showthread.php?t=39457

If you want to use an ISP other than Supanet with your Time / Tiny PC, you have to jump through hoops to deconfigure it, being lucky to not to end up wasting a lot of money on a premium rate support line.

When Time and Tiny competed, they were both "quite good" but with them merged into "The Computer World" (name challenged, I believe , by PC World) - and now "The Computer Store", all these guys are interested in is hyping their latest "special" before the parts in it get more out of date (actually, SOME of them have a reasonable kit of parts for the price - but they'll be the light version, and they'll avoid mentioning it).

They also tend to go for Office 2003 (small print - 60 day trial version)

Time/ Computer Shop

im a newbie and recently bought a pc from time, or the computer shop as they are now. was happy with the system for the price. got it home and being naive started surfing on dial up with no protection. needless to say, within a week i was hit with about 4 viruses. i was recommended by a friend of mine to format the hard drive and reinstall my operating system with my recovery disk. then it appeared i wasnt supplied with a recovery disk.In a quick telephone conversation, i was bluntly told that they do not provide with the systems, and i would have to pay £60 for the privilege. also evry pc they sell is installed with xp, yet they do not give the buyer a licence or recovery disk. isnt it illegal for them to provide this operating system without giving you the licence to use it?

If you purchase their extended warranty, they throw in the CD - yep! I forgot that one - NOT EVEN A RESTORE FROM HD!

That's how they can do a a PC with 15" TFT monitor for £499
- It'll have just 128MB of RAM, using up to 32Mb of that for onboard graphics, a 60 day trial of Office 2003 (Microsoft probably PAY them to put that on), Supanet pre-installed and locked down (another backhander).

The guys at my local computer fair (and PLEASE support YOUR local computer fair, they could be on the wane against the faceless internet stores) could probably put something better together while you wait.

you cant go wrong with a dell .
the support team offers a great sevice where for the price of a stamp you get all your questions answered by letter!
or you can try the freephone support line but they cant speak english.
tossers!

On another note about tiny pc's, was going to buy one
once upon a time but didn't want to fork out for the recovery disk,
as I have nortons ghost and was going to ghost the new h/drive.
Spoke to the guy on the phone and he said that it could'nt be ghosted
because they used a patented recovery process using T-clone software,
thought that was a load of bullsh*t so in the end I built my own.
