Throwing DVD-r disks away.........

I get so annoyed sometimes when I try to burn data or disk images, and the burning software bombs-out and leaves me with a disk that I can not do anything with, even though there seems to be no real data on the disk. When I try to reuse, the disk just seems to spin endlessly and I get a message telling me that there is not a valid disk in the drive. I have thrown away so many disks it's untrue.
Is there any way of making a DVD-R good again without throwing away and using another disk ?

I have an external Iomega Super DVD drive, and have been using TDK 1-4x disks, and use the Iomega HotBurn Pro software or Nero.

Thanks for any help you can give. I am a bit upset at the moment

Welcome. :) How about we try and fix the problem, to start with I would say you need a DVD-RW. Thats what I use when I not sure if its going to work. Can you post a log file so we can see whats going on? Also use a program like DVD Identifier so we can see who make's the media your using. Let start with that and maybe we can fix your problem. Or if you just want the answer to your question " Is there any way of making a DVD-R good again without throwing away and using another disk ?" No. But they do make good coasters.

Thanks for the reply PC Guy. Much appreciated.

I just downloaded the DVD Identifier, and it says -
Disk Type - DVD-R
Manufacturer ID - TTG01

Don't know if that is any help, but that's what it says.

Thanks for any more advice.

Sorry PC-Guy, can't find a log file. Looked everywhere, but doesn't seem to be one anywhere in the Iomega Hotburn file structure or in Temp.

TTG01 as far as what I read at dvdrhelp thats CMC media. I could be wrong but if I'm right you will find a lot of members don't speak to highly of CMC.
So that could be your problem.
Also you might be able to return that media.
Try some different media. You might want to take a look and see what other people have had luck with.
Iomega Super DVD at DVDRHelp.

OK, thanks. I will take your advice and get DVD-RW from now on, so I can rewrite if it doesn't go too well. I should have bought them to start with. I bought TDK because I thought they were a reputable brand. Obvioulsy not.

I mainly want it for backup of Photos and MP3's, so I need good quality disks to be sure of quality data backups, but I have started to download Xbox games and need to burn them too.

Thanks for your replies.
