this'll work wont it?

ok, thinking of buying a dvd recorder , i've burned heaps of vcds/svcds out in the past, my question is can i burn out svcds on to dvd-r media, if i can then i can get 2 films on one dvd at svcd level, is it only the media that has changed or is there a completly new set of rules with dvd media -seems a bit complicated to rip dvds to dvdr in that format so i'll stick to what i know. anyway mpeg 2 is nearly as good!!(not a purist)will my dvd player recognise svcd on dvdr media (philips -plays all svcs /vcd etc

any advice is welcome:D

hmmm...I think it will recognise the discs... but no guarantee ...

--> hmm svcds on DVD-R works ...but u will need a small trick ... cause SVCD resolution isn´t DVD compliant...
u have to use DVDPatcher --> it changes the header of your mpeg files...

You will also have to re-encode the sound to 48Khz as on SVCDs the sound is usually recorded at 44Khz (the same as CDs).

Also you might even need to re-encode it as ac3 if you intend to splice 2 or 3 SVCDs together into 1 DVD-R because ac3 includes a timecode which mp2 or a raw WAV doesn't.

Otherwise you are likely to end up with your video and audio streams being totally out of sync.

You can avoid having to scale and re-encode your M2V streams but you will need a decent authoring program as well if you intend to splice 2 or 3 SVCDs together.
