The guide spam phenomenon

A trend has been noticed at this and other forums...

A "helpful" new poster brings along a nicely formatted guide with pictures, typically for some piece of shareware with the absolutely senseless "free download" description.

Now it may not offensive as some other kinds of spam, but it's still nothing more than scattergun product spamming.

If it is actually directed by the companies concerned, then it is seriously misguided, while if it is by over-zealous affiliates, they need to be giving some stern warnings on their behaviour.
