The Big Freeze

Need a little help if possible. I am having trouble with my system freezing/hanging.
I am running Windows ME on an Athlon 1100 and am getting heavily frustrated at my system hanging and giving me error messages.

Can anyone help???:(

Hi bud!Welcome to the forum! If you can explain the error messages,it would help. Are you getting blue screens.Does it hang at startup?Or does it continually freeze/ hang?Do you have Cdrsoftware installed like Easy Cd Creator?

The more information you can provide the easier it will be to help you. That said,an upgrade to Win 2k or XP would remedy many of your problems,if you chose that path.;)

More info is needed about your gear and what apps are you running, what the errors say and if this happens anytime or when you are doing something in particular.

Cheers guys.
Well i have recently wiped the machine(full format) as i thought that i had a virus(advice from computer shop).
After doing this and with nothing on the system it still hangs and freezes with errors.
The problem is that i can use the machine for about an hour say on the net and when i go to load M/soft Word or any other program it sends up Kernel32.dll errors or msvscrt.dll errors.

i had nothing on the machine for a while and it still wouldn't load after about an hour of usage.
What do you think???

Hmmm...sounds like it might be temperature related.I would look at the processing chip running too hot.Second thing to check would be bad ram.;)

yep Bad RAM is just about favourite here but I had a similar problem (different op system etc) & the culprit was hard to believe
it was a dodgy processor which had an intermittent fault <> new processor happiness

my point is dont rule out anything as my most learned friend

Watson after you rule out the probable & the improbable it is time to look at the impossible

I am dum too

I had a problem and could not FIND it. Cooling fans went faster, would not shut down properly at times. The video card fan was going round but not FUNCTIONING.

Fan going real bad and video slowred etc led to WATCH the video card fan (under it).

Overheating and HOT video card did not allow "safe to shit down" when it did.

That MS***.dll seems to have caused problems and I think something OUT THERE deleting it. That caused me to do a restore and someone else having problems on 2 NEW barebone systems, not using any of MY software!

Activate the MB control for temps/voltages.

I would be inclined to follow up on Woody' advice. Your problem sounds very like a temprature one, either the fan on the CPU or your power supply may be overheating. Either of these will give you no end of heartache.
Oh and one more thing, I would get rid of Windows ME! (Nothing to do with you problem though)

Fix my problem

My replacement MB, CPU and RAM shoud let me know if one of those was bad. I am sure video area was burned. I get 386 file errors (DOS back to Windows) so I know I have a problem with this setup for a couple more days. With the prices now if it will be fixed I will DUMP old items.
