The Best Program To Use...

Just wondering what everyone thinks is the best program(s) to use for burning, converting, ripping, and encoding DVD's. I am a student of the Chickenman way of thinking and use smartripper, svcd2vcd and then nero. I use TMPGEnc Plus as the encoder, what do you all use!

I use "what I preach", SmartRipper to rip, DVD2SVCD with CCE for SVCD or DVDR and with TMPGenc for VCD. Vidomi with DivX 5.02 for AVI. EazyVCD is an excellent alternative to DVD2SVCD if you want a simple rip from DVD to VCD.

Procoder is a great encoder, I just find it to slow and no real advantage over the others.

absoulutley the best way to rip to DivX smartripper 2.40 dvd2avi 1.76 virtualdub 4.xxx Gordian knot to sort it all out

SmartRipper 2.41
Only occasionally use DVD2AVI (Usually use the d2v file generated by SmartRipper)
Avisynt or VFAPIConv to frameserve CCE
DVD Maestro
and finally burn with RecordNow MAX

I use the CM method using SmartRipper to rip instead of vStrip and CCE to encode but have been trying a number this week using Eazy VCD, the results for both are top notch.

The one downside of using Eazy VCD I've found though for SVCD is the amount of CDR's it takes. I ripped the film "The 6th Day" this week and it took "4" CDR's!?!?!? Now if I'd done the same rip using DVD2SVCD it definately would have only been 3 even with similar settings. I've done several other fims that I could have just about got onto 2 CDR's using DVD2SVCD but yet are 3 discs using Eazy VCD even with the correct "80" size set in the Gui.

Best methods I think for DVD to DivX is vidomi (sorts it all out better than GordionKnot once you understand bitrates & aspect sizes). However for DivX with subtitles I would go the nandub method (as nandub is much better than virtualdub for mp3s).

(use whatever ripper you like *smartripper/cladDVD/Vstrip/etc...)

PS
if you're new at it though, then GordionKnot is good for you to determine size and things like that.

for most films i use divx and the tvout on my pc. I used gordian knot/virtual dub for great quality movies.

if something is really worth keeping that i wouldn't buy then i use the CM SVCD guide so i can see it on the actual dvd player in my house!
