Technika Dvd-212... Vcd Compatible?

Does anyone in the UK have the Technika DVD-212 standalone player? If so, it would be very interesting to learn how you play VCD's on it. My sister has just bought one, it doesn't state on the front panel that it plays this format but on some reviews I've read, most people have said that it DOES play them... perhaps VCD's only recorded on CD-RW media coz it sure doesn't play them on CD-R. Apparently, it's been said that there is a number you can change in the factory settings to enable this but all the people who state that it plays VCD are not helping anyone else who is enquiring:mad:

Does anyone have any help they can offer me?

I've checked vcdhelp and a few other places.
It seems that the fimware has changed and it no longer plays (s)vcd.
It may work on cdrw. You just have to try it.
However as cdrs work on the previous firmware it looks like the function has been disabled or even removed.
Philips who own the license for vcd are actively pursuing dvd manufactures who have not paid for the privledge.
That is why there are a few dvd players out there that can play svcd but not vcd.
I wouldnt recommend buying any dvd player without sticking a vcd/svcd in first. There have been many instances of a player with the same brand and model number suddenly having vcd capability withdrawn.
You may even find both versions on the same stack of players in the store!
Just be careful. You can always try taking it back.
