TDK labels the CD and DVD market

Tuesday, 26 November 2002

TDK Recording Media Europe has released a new CD and DVD labelling product in Europe. One of the first printers commercially available, the CD/DVD label printer expands TDK’s increasingly strong presence in the computer peripherals market. This is a unique, efficient and user friendly disc printer that provides professional quality printing for home recorded discs.
Complete with a range of coloured ink ribbons, in blue (TR-18BU-T), red (TR-18RD-T), black (TR-18BK-T) and silver (TR-18SR-T), the TDK label printer enables users to clearly and professionally title discs. A single ink ribbon can print between 20 and 40 discs.

Using TDK original Windows software, business and home users can experiment with fonts and the layout of their designs to create instantly recognisable, personalised CDs and DVDs. Users can also import music title lists from CD Text and Windows Media Player or file names from their PC. Bitmap and Jpeg images can also be printed. The thermal type printing quality is 200dpi, and takes only a few seconds to transfer on to a disc. The ink is already dry as the CD comes out of the printer.

The TDK CD/DVD Label Printer LPCW-50 will print directly onto any type of CD or DVD media surface, no special disc is required. Compared to a disc with a sticker-type label, a directly printed disc assures much higher reliability in playback, as it does not cause any balance problem. Replacement TDK thermal ink cassettes will be available from most TDK stockists.

Tak Kigoshi, TDK's computer peripherals and applied digital products manager commented: “TDK is always looking for ways to expand its core business areas. The label printer is a great example of this. As market leaders in recording media, the label printer is a natural development. CD and DVD burning is becoming increasingly popular and users want a way of making their discs look professional and easy to recognise.”

TDK‘s CD/DVD label printer will be available across the UK from mid November 2002. The recommended retail price for printers is £99.99 and the Ink ribbons are £6.49.

Note: This label printer is a thermal transfer printer. Printing cannot be ideally performed on some printable discs (inkjet printer support type) and on discs with uneven surface areas. Please use the recommended media for optimum results.
