My wife bought a TDK440N multi-format drive for me for Father's Day.
Cool!
I've burned DVD+RWs, DVD-RWs, CD-Rs, CD-RWs without a problem using Roxio EC6 and Nero (5.5.10.42).
I recently tried to copy a DVD-R with had MP3 files on it.
That's when the trouble began....
Simply put both Roxio and Nero failed.
"invalid field in command" was the message Nero provided.
I can read DVD-Rs just fine.
I've tried burning 3 different DVD-R medias ("generic", Memorex, and the actual blank TDK DVD-R which shipped with the unit).
All had the same error.
I tried copying direct and then also copying the MP3s to disk and burning from there. I've also created an image on disk and tried burning that.
Always, the same error.
I contacted TDK support.
They had me flash 1.06 firmware.
I've also removed Roxio in the meantime.
Now when I try to burn, Nero completely locks up as soon as it gets to the initiate burn step (recall, this is in XP). I can't even Task Manager kill it.
Apparently "a few" others are having this problem as well.
I've tried the drive on a 98SE machine, but it (Nero) gives me a "drive not ready" message.
TDK is actively looking into it.
Any and all comments are welcome and will be appreciated.
