Taking an .avi type 2 file and making it dvd compliant with CCE questions

I've been reading all sorts of stuff about converting an .avi file to mpeg2 for dvd compliance with CCE. Most of this relates to converting files ripped from a DVD. I've got some type 2 .avi files that I've captured from my hi-8. Now that my friend has a dvd burner we are interested in testing some dvd compliant files out. I noticed that in dvd2svcd (I primarily use it for .avi files) that I can choose a DVD type setting, however, I want to bump the bitrate setting up.

Is there an easy way to do this? A guide? Or do I finally need to break down and learn how to write my own .avs file--which makes me nervous?

Can I use el presidente's guide and just start with the .avi section? Or will that not work right--I noticed when he creates the audio for the .vobs that he is pulling those in separately, so, maybe I need to rip the audio from the .avi files, then encode with CCE? Sorry. This might also be in the wrong section, but I generally post here and know there are some pretty adept people at this stuff.

I could always use TMPGenc, but I'm a bigger fan of CCE.

DVD2SVCD will rip and convert the Audio track from your AVI no problems there.

I understand all you need to do about bitrate is set the Max to about 6000, minimum 1000, set disk size to 4380 and DVD2SVCD will sort it all out for you.
