System (XP) slows down when burning DVD or CD

Hi.. Maybe this is normal, but It doesnt seem right.

My setup:
Gigabyte GA-8PE667 Ultra mb
PIV 2.4
1024Mb DDR 333 RAM
4 X 7200rpm HDs (NTFS) on IDE 3 and 4 (i.e not using the RAID controller on mb, using it as IDE 3 & 4 instead)
Pioneer 105 on IDE 1 as master
TDK CD burner on IDE 2 as master
XP Pro
Nero 6

No problem burning a DVD (or CD) and completes in expected time etc.. but whilst burning (DVD or CD i.e to IDE 1 or 2, I cant do anything else with the PC as everything else slows down (I have XP SP1 + all latest updates) so much.

Everything works fine (fast) on all HDs when not burning

I'm wondering if Im using my IDEs the best way.
Primary & Secondary IDE are both set to PIO mode - seems that despite having them on "DMA if possible", I cant force DMA mode (from Ctrl panel->system->devices..etc)

Help!! Anyone???
Thanks

You should force DMA mode in some way, else you could encounter problems like the one you described... IAA (Intel Application Accelerator) has issues with some burning applications, but you could give it a try if there is not another way to force DMA. Before doing so, enter your system BIOS and set itmanually instead of automatically (it should be UDMA-2 for your Atapi devices).

Problem Fixed - Thanks

Thanks Scarecrow - I didnt think about Intel Accel at all.
De-installed it and hey presto - primary & secondary ide came up in device manager as UDMA-2
Tried a few burns - perfect - no impact on system response whilst burning at all!
I'm not sure if I'm going to suffer not having Intel Accel on there any more - but it doesnt seem to me that anything is running slower at the moment
Thanks again

IAA is a real hit-or-miss: Runs perfectly well in some systems, but in others it creates a horrible mess... don't ask me why, better ask Intel instead!
