system error

i was trying to help a friend sort out a problem she is having with her computer after installing a game. evrytime she boots the computer she is getting the message "your system has recovered from a serious error" even after uninstalling the game this is happening. the computer is an HP pavilion running WinXP. i had her check device manager for possible hardware problem and also cleaned the registry but this problem persists. it never happened before installing the game but jsut wont stop happening now even after using the HP recovery program any ideas on where to look for possible problems would be helpful

Hi bud,not a lot to go on..Go into control panel>administrative tools.Check the event viewer for warnings.Double click on them. This will help to narrow the problem(s) down. You may also follow links with the warnings to Microsoft troubleshooting. You can also use system tools>Dr.Watson for error messages..Hope that helps.

my idea

After my foul ups I would say the GAME altered DirectX or display mode.

There can be a problem with NEW programming tools used.

@Chimusic,good point bud.;) He can try running Direct X troubleshooter >system tools.Sometimes reinstalling Direct X can help too.Normally, installing a video game should not cause system problems like this(especially after using system recovery). It's going to take some detective work.:(

From waht i understand there dont appear to be any display diffrences from now to before installing the game... as far as admin tools i will have her try that, however i would think that HP's recovery from disc would have corrected any direct X problem, a word to anyone with an HP dont use this tool, use the windows system restore instead. thanks for the tips i will have her try both of these suggestions and hopefully get a little more info on it
