System can't recognize blank DVD

Hope someone can help me with this problem..Fast!!I just got sony dru-500a but when I put brand new
discs(Sony:dvd+rw,Maxell:dvd+rw,dvd-r)into my cd/dvd-rom(Hitachi. It couldn't
even recognize any of these media in its drive(keep on spinning). And when I put these discs I mentioned above into Sony DRU drive then check property: used
space 1.99 GB,free space 0 byte and it also appears to the system as music CD which contain one file "track 01" which I tried to play with MP but couldn't get anything out of it.
ps. My os is Windows Me,Pentuim 2,400 Mghz. Software are Sony,cloneCD and Neo

Are you writing a DVD Video format? Please Explored your DVD again, can you see VIDEO_TS or AUDIO_TS folder? If is different, that means it can not play at all.

Check your DVD Burning Software. Read the menu. How to write DVD Video.

Or try the guides on this forum or doom9.
If the discs are blank then that is why your dvd-rom cant see them.
Not 100% sure what you are saying.

Thank you all for helping me(ac3cd,daveml,whytless physh)
I forgot to tell you that I did successfully burn one DVD (PS2 Game:Spider Man ;Maxell DvD-RW,Software-Sony CopyNow). So I thought I will use just DVD-R to save some money that how I ran into that problem because when I burn that game with DVD-r(maxell) it will burn for 30 second then stop "you ran out of space...something like that". I ruined couple of discs before I started to check my disc property (how it appears to my system). I did contact Maxell and Sony but didn't hear anything back from neither one of them...you know how it goes!!

At the mean time will try all your recommendations and will let you know what I find out by the way Happy New Year to you all !!!

I finally figured it out that the problem was my OS (windows Me) because after I tried that "Drive" on Windows 2000. It works just fine!!!
