SVCD/VCD/ Studio 8???

i have a small movie i am editing with studio 8, i dont want to waste a DVD caus its so small(even though it would be bettre quality)
Now i dont know much about CDs VCD/SVCD so i would like to know what would be the better quality option VCD or SVCD??? also does any one know what the "filter" option check box does if it is on or not in pinnacle studio 8???

SVCD is better quality than VCD and allows a higher bitrate at the cost of time, but VCD offers better player compatibility.

Full DVD encoding on CD is called "miniDVD" - but player compatibility is VERY limited, and the time possible is also shorter than best quality SVCD.

Encoding at nonstandard SVCD rates is called XSVCD - or in one description, XSVCD is "anything encoded like SVCD and written in SVCD mode, but with bitrates or size outside the standard" - player compatibility is again limited, but often better than miniDVD.
