svcd quality vs time

What kind of movie times are people putting on 1 cd in svcd mode? I understand it also depends on the compressibility of a film but whats the general rule of thumb?

Usually i am encoding 16:9 movies with the black borders. I haven't had much chance to experiment yet due to lack of cds and have just been following the movie time rules in dvd2svcd.

Is it possible to get 1hr 30 minutes on a single cd with good quality, for example`?

90min as a SVCD on 1 CD would almost be unwatchable ! 40-60min is normal for an 80min CD.

If you want a whole 90min movie on one CD then DivX is your best solution.

i like divx but want to make use of SVCD for my favourite films in my dvd player. i'm in no financial position to get a divx hardware player.

I did lotr from 2cd divx i made to a 3 SVCD, quality was fantastic even from divx source.
