SVCD Play Back Issue

I have a 2400+ AMD Athlon CPU, ASUS A7V8X Mainboard, 4200ti Nvidia video card, 512 400mhz DDR ram, and Altec Lansing 5.1 surround sound speakers, Liteon 16x DVD-Rom, and 48x12x48 Liteon CD-RW.

The main problem I am having is when I watch SVCD's (using both full versions of WinDVD 4 (with multichannel support) and PowerDVD 4 after a while they both jump and freeze which makes viewing the movies impossible.

Before I switched over to to the Liteon DVD-Rom I had an LG 16x DVD-Rom which worked great until it gave me the same problems I am having now with the new Liteon. I have formatted my computer and tried installing just the DVD playback software and it still does the jumping and freezing issue.

Now the funny thing is I can watch DIVX, VCD, and DVD with no worries but when it comes to SVCD it takes a dive for the worst. Keeping in mind that it used to work great watching SVCD's until the problem arose.

I have updated the DVD firmware and it still does it.... any ideas of what software I can try or if there is anyone that knows what is going on help would be great. DMA is off and all the player settings are correct so anything eles it could be?

Thanks for your time and help,

Dark Sith

I suggest you turn DMA ON and try it. My LiteOn will not play anything smooth with it turned off. I have the same CPU & M/B as you as well.

i had probs with my DMA when on it froze my system when accessing the dvd drive :( i resolved it by using newer IDE drivers try your board makers home site :)

I have tried them both on and off and it still does not work. I'm a computer technician so I have gone through the most possible things and can't seem to work it out.

What has got me jiggered is the fact I can play divx and vcd no problems at but cant watch any SVCD at all.

Extract the SVCD mpg file (with Isobuster or VCDGear) to the HD, dont just copy the file across. How does WinDVD play it now ? If its all fine then the problem lies with the IDE drivers and/or the cd/dvd-rom your playing it on and/or the brand of cdr & writting speed.
