SVCD or VCD

svcd using dvd2svcd. u can use every last mb of your discs. the quality is superb.
vcd is a step down, but for movies under 80mins only uses 1 disc.
for your average 90-100min movie svcd is better as there is no wasted space on your cds.

As said above, SVCD without a doubt. But less DVD Players playback SVCD than playback VCD's, so you may be forced to use VCD. Make one of both and see the difference, best is to do the same movie in both formats to compare.

All depends on you. Most of the guys here prefer SVCD, but I prefer VCD. Takes only 2 CDs as opposed to 3 needed for SVCDs.
If done correctly, gives you a very good quality (better than VHS).
If I wanted better I would just buy the DVD lol.
Ofcourse SVCD gives you better quality, but not enough for myself to buy the extra CDs.

Best bet, give them both a try and test them both on your standalone player.
Am sure everyone can agree on that (as CM also suggested).
Then decide on what fits your budget, likes, etc... .

Good luck

Maybe is something wrong with my eyes but i see a big difference between vcd and svcd!
SVCD is a lot better and it worth to give 30 cents more for a cd.

Tip:
If you use Tmpeg, this works with my DVD player, maybe works with yours too:
I convert the movie file as DVD with Tmpeg and then burn it as Super VCD but not standard with Nero!
My player regognize it as SVCD normal and the quality is Very good!
