SVCD Movie on TV?

Hello:

Can you watch an svcd disc on your TV's DVD player or are you only able to watch this format on your computer?

All depends on the DVD player m8, some will and some will not.

A lot of the cheap newer ones play both VCD & SVCD. The Acoustic Solutions & CyberHome ones from www.richersounds.co.uk play just about everything.

Hi:

When I insert the disk the WinXP dialog box pops up and asks if I want to run the movie with WinDVD. I press Enter and WinDVD pops up and I get a message from WinDVD that it is an invalid disk.

So, I got to Windows Explorer and navigate to the CD and go to the MPEG folder on it and open it and double click the .MPG file and it opens WinDVD and plays the movie. Is this the proper way to view it or did I burn the disk wrong?

What version of WinDVD are you using m8?

I have had a number of SVCD problems with the last few builds of WinDVD myself, so there is prolly nothing wrong with your discs at all. ;)

No I've got 4.5 too, the last two builds I've used I've had this trouble with. I have V4 on another system and that works fine for SVCD's.

Hi:

Please bear with me since I am a newbie at this but, the way I see this SVCD thing is you don't even need a DVD player at all. You can actually play these files off your hard drive or off a regular CD Rom drive, just by double clicking the AVSEQ01.MPG file that is in the folder called MPEG2. WinDVD or Power DVD are not needed either since RealPlayer will play it too.

Is that correct, that you don't need a DVD drive or player at all for viewing SVCD's, or am I losing something in quality by playing them this way?

Hey:

When I put the disk in my DVD player that is connected to my TV I get a message that there is no mp3 file present. I guess my DVD player does not recognize SVCD then.

I've got a 21" monitor so DVD's do look pretty good on this computer system ( The Sopranos was much clearer and had richer colors on my computer than on my TV) but if I want to watch with my wife I prefer the TV.

I always like what Oscar Wilde said about self-love - that it was the beginning of a life long relationship.
