SVCD from AVI problems

Hello all, just wanted to say hello and thanks to ChickenMan for his article on AVI to SVCD. It was great and I got to learn about some new tools like DVD2SVD.

I have a problem if you can help me. I've burned an AVI onto CD before but it was from a DV source and it worked well, I used (don't laugh) Windows Movie Maker to edit it and then saved it as an AVI and then used TMPGEnc to convert it to an SVCD compatible mpg. I then burned it with Roxio video pack.

So it worked fine and everything except that I wanted to save a 41 minute episode and watch it on my DVD player. It wasn't working so I followed chickennman's instructions using the tools in the article and I still get the same problem.

When I make an SVCD and played it with WinDVD it says no valid drive disks found.
When playing it on the DVD player, it doesn't auto play or come up with the option to play, it just displays the folders. I can navigate to the MPEG folder and play the avi, but it shows up with lots of little cubes on the screen and the audio blots in and out.

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks in advance

For "..WinDVD it says no valid drive disks found.." problem, check the Setup of WinDVD, its trying to runsomething off your CD/DVD rather than the file on your HD.

You should NOT be able to see any folder structure on your DVD Player of a SVCD disk. This is telling me you have NOT burn it as a SVCD but just a DATA disk or similar. Read the Tute's, you will NOT ever ever find any reference to use any Roxie product in there. Use the tools recommended and it will work.

i agree what chickenman said, but if your dvd player lets you browse the folders, and play the mpeg, then it supports raw mpeg files. and you said it didn't play correctly, so if you author that mpeg file to a vcd then i probably still won't play
